Shreds Series

I began this first group of works on paper during my August 2024 residency at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in County Mayo, Ireland, using ink, gouache, watercolor, acrylic, powdered charcoal, pencil, and collage in various combinations. They are small, intimate, untitled pieces, averaging about 3-6 inches per side. Many of the images suggest an abstracted torso, emphasizing the personal nature of this process. In making these, I was struck by the implications of repurposing and integrating bits of my recorded past into current artwork. Along with he visual impact of contrasts in texture and shape, the shreds offered deeper meanings having to do with transformation, aging, and memory.
